What
is the Pittsburgh Basketball Club?
The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is a non-profit organization which
organizes and operates summer and fall basketball leagues throughout
Western PA. The Club also organizes Grade School and Junior High
tournaments through out the regular season as well as the Western
PA Coaches vs. Cancer games held in early December every year.
Now approaching its 13th year, virtually every basketball prospect
in Western PA has participated in the league. With 8 sites for
its Varsity league alone, The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is the
home to the premier leagues and tourneys in Western PA.
Who participates in the leagues?
For the most part, the Pittsburgh Basketball Club hosts school
based teams for there programs. These teams are normally made
up of players from the same school district and coached by there
respective school coach. Unless specified otherwise, no AAU or
All-star teams are allowed to participate in the school based
leagues.
Are the leagues compliant with
PIAA Regulations for off season workouts?
YES! The PIAA rules are followed to the letter so that no off
season violations occur. Though there are some programs out there
that do in fact skirt the rules, this league insures to the letter
that we are PIAA compliant.
How do we sign up?
High School Coaches are sent all pertinet information for participation
in the league. They may also download an application on line.
Like wise, any program for individuals can be both mailed and
downloaded.
I want to go to a summer league
game, How do I get there?
Our site provides a link to download directions to any gym we
use from your door to the gyms door!
Will the Pittsburgh Basketball Club
hold a camp?
Our camp links outline several camps to consider which I feel
are worth your consideration.
Are there any programs for individuals?
YES. The All America Showcase is held annually to host the top
individual players throughout the tri-state area. The Next Factors
Spotlight Training Camps are also held every spring affording
area players the opportunity to compete for the much sought elite
invitations to the ABCD and Camp Next camps in Teaneck, New jersey
organized and directed by the godfather of grass roots basketball,
Sonny Vaccaro.
Several other programs and camps for younger individual players
are in the planning stages and will be announced on this site
in the near future. In our camps section, we provide links to
several camps in our area should you be interested.
If an individual program is by
invitation only, how do I get invited?
If you are not invited, your coach may recommend you for an invitation
to the event. This does not guarantee an invitation to an invite
only program, but will merit you strong consideration.
Is the Pittsburgh Basketball Club
affiliated with AAU?
NO. The Pittsburgh Basketball Club, in conjunction with several
of our corporate partners, assist in sponsoring travel basketball
teams that participate in AAU programming, but per say, we have
no direct affiliation with the AAU. The AAU is an all-star team
based structure, where as the Pittsburgh Basketball Club is a
school based structure.
Will an AAU tournament be hosted
by the Pittsburgh Basketball Club?
The merits of holding a tourney in conjunction with several sponsors
in town has been discussed. Expect an announcement concerning
this soon. The Pitt Jam Fest held by the Hoop Group is one of
the top tourneys in the country As stated above, we anticipate
hosting a major Reebok AAU event in the spring as well as several
other shoe company sponsored events in 2005.Please keep in mind
that events staged by shoe companies are regional to national
in scope, rather than just local events. We hope to announce the
particulars soon!
What AAU/ Travel team tourney do
you recommend?
Depends on the age. For varsity basketball aged teams on a national
level, The Reebok Big Time in Las Vegas truly separates the men
from the boys, as does the Bob Gibbons Tourney of Champions. There
are several good local tourneys held every year for all ages and
genders. Should the Pittsburgh Baksetball Club host an event in
the future, you can be assured the tourney will be top flight.
Will there be tryouts for the travel
teams?
Yes. These will be announced later in the year.
Will you be adding girls programs
in the near future?
YES.Discussions are ongoing to bring a Girls event into the fold
in the very near future.
I would love to obtain some shorts
and shirts with the many Pittsburgh Basketball Club Logos. How
may I obtain them?
Our site will have a merchandise section where several of these
items can be purchased utilizing a PayPal account. We hope to
have this running sooner than later!
How may my corporation become involved
with sponsoring a Pittsburgh Basketball Club event?
There are many ways a company or an individual may contribute
or sponsor the Pittsburgh Basketball Club and its many events.
Feel free to contact me through this site for more information.
