O BRIEN TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVMENT AWARD

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is proud to announce the recipient of our 1st Lifetime Achievement Award is Jim O'Brien. Jim has been on the Pittsburgh sports scene for over 50 years, known for his outstanding work covering basketball for many periodicals, including the Sporting News, Basketball Times, Basketball Weekly, SPORT Magazine and Basketball Digest.

 

Mr. O'Brien was also the founding editor of the Street and Smith's Basketball yearbook for 23 years and served on the nominating committee for the Basketball Hall of Fame. Jim's extensive work on the committee led to the successful induction of Pittsburgh legends Jack Twyman (Central Catholic), official "Red" Mihalik (Ford City) and Chick Cooper (Westinghouse HS and Duquesne University) into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

 

Jim is the author of numerous books of Western PA sports and has been honored with many awards through out his outstanding career. In April of 2003, Jim became the first native of Western PA inducted into the U.S Basketball writers Hall of Fame.
